A data center audit validates the design, build and operations of your facility. Facility and Physical Infrastructure
Document the physical layout: floor plan, zones, containment and airflow. Confirm redundancy tiers (e.g. N+1, 2N) for power and cooling. List environmental controls: temperature, humidity and monitoring. Verify physical security: access control, CCTV, mantrap and visitor procedures. Ensure as-built and operational documentation is available for the auditor. Include any recent changes or incidents that might affect the assessment.
Power and Cooling
Document power chain: utility, UPS, PDU and redundancy. Plan for load testing if required. Verify cooling design: CRAC/CRAH, redundancy and hot/cold aisle. Include fuel and runtime for backup generators if applicable. Have maintenance records and test logs ready. If the audit includes resilience testing, coordinate with facilities for any planned failover tests.
Cabling and Network
Include structured cabling and fibre certification in scope. Ensure cable management and labelling meet standards. Plan for network performance and connectivity assessment as part of a full IT infrastructure audit. Document cross-connects and carrier meet-me rooms if relevant.
Operations and Procedures
Provide runbooks for critical operations, change management and incident response. Document capacity and capacity planning. Include DR and business continuity procedures and any recent DR tests. Auditors often review how well operations match design and policy.
